Multi-Classroom Leaders (MCLs)
Purple Pathway for Paraeducators
Students enrolled in the UNI Purple Pathway for Paraeducators program are required to have a Multi-Classroom Leader (MCL) assigned within a school or school district to ensure that a list of competencies are met by the time the paraeducator completes their program.
Please provide your school and MCL information below by Wednesday, September 21.
What does an MCL do?
MCLs are especially focused on checking the progress of a paraeducator along the following four categories:
- Professionalism
- Environment
- Planning
- Instruction
Selecting the MCL(s)
MCLs can be an instructional coach or a teacher already working with the paraeducator(s), or another teacher within the building that has an interest in working with paraeducators.
If more than one paraeducator is enrolled at your school, a single MCL could be identified to work with all of them. However, we do not recommend assigning more than 3-4 paraeducators to a single MCL.
Work Progress Competency Report
With support of the MCL, the progress made by a paraeducator is divided into a list of three levels of competencies:
- Field training – Exposed to and assists with the task
- Demonstrates fundamentals – Performs the task with some coaching
- Proficient in task – Performs the task properly and consistently
By the completion of the program, MCLs should check off that all three competency levels have been completed. This report will be shared in a future communication directly with MCLs.
