Best Practices for Online Exams and Quizzes

Before you begin your online exam:

Please choose a quiet environment. We recommend turning off your cell phone and making sure you are not disturbed during the exam process.

Please collect all the course-related materials allowed for your exam and have them nearby.

We suggest using a reliable Internet connection. A wired connection is the most reliable. Avoid using a wireless Internet connection if you are able.

During the online exam:

It’s important to stay within the exam. There are a few key things to remember:

  • Please do not click outside of the test -- including the navigation on the left side panel in Blackboard, additional browser windows, or applications, for the duration of your online exam session. In addition, avoid using the scroll wheel on your mouse, as this will sometimes inadvertently change answers.
  • Remember to always use the Save Answers button before you go to the next question. For further assurance, also click on Save All Answers before submission.
  • When ready to submit your exam, click on the Save and Submit button just once. If your Internet connection is slow, you may think the exam is not being sent. Wait at least 3-5 minutes for a confirmation that your online exam has been received.

Please keep in mind:

Online exams in this course may have a time limit. The timer begins when you start the exam, and continues to run even if you exit the exam or lose connection.

If you exit the exam or lose connection and return after the time limit has been reached, your exam will auto-submit when you re-enter it.
