8 Tips for Succeeding in Online Classes
Moving to an entirely online learning environment might seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s why we’re here with our top tips to help you be successful in your online courses, as we all navigate this “new normal” together.
Get ready for the day. Get out of pajamas and maintain your daily ritual of getting ready.
Set up a dedicated study space. A place with a good Internet connection and away from distraction. Ideally not in bed or on the couch.
Treat your online course as you would an in-person course. Give your online course the same attention you would as an in-person course. Remove all distractions, like closing unnecessary browser windows. Actively participate in your online class forums and reach out to instructors if you feel like you’re struggling.
Stay organized. Organize your files for each class in a way that makes sense to you. Maintain a copy of assignments that you submit, in the event of a technical issue. Take good class notes as you would in an in-person class.
Manage your time. Set daily class goals. Block out time in your calendar for studying, watching lectures, and assignments. Remember to give yourself intermittent breaks (Try the Pomodoro technique– 25 minutes on, 5 minute break, repeat).
Stay connected. Start an online study group. Check in with friends, classmates, and instructors. Have an accountability buddy.
Know your resources. Familiarize yourself with campus resources– including academic support, technical support, and health resources. A great place to start is prepare.uni.edu.
